Do you feel you’ve tried just about everything to get rid of your acne but still see blemishes? Don’t despair. To see clearer skin, you probably just need to make some changes.

The following tips from dermatologists can help you get started.

1. Wash Your Face Daily

The first and most important rule isn’t exactly groundbreaking. Remember to wash your face twice daily! Over the course of the day, things like sweat, oil, sebum, dead skin cells, makeup, sunscreen, and environmental pollutants build up on the skin. So, it’s important to remove these layers of dirt that can contribute to breakouts.

Also, what you use to cleanse your face matters. The skin on your face is delicate, so you don’t want to use harsh soaps. Instead, choose a cleanser that leaves your skin feeling clean but not overly dry or stripped.Image credit:

2. Keep Your Hands Off Your Face

One of the most basic tips for how to get rid of acne is simply to keep your hands to yourself. Your hands aren’t always clean, and dirt under your fingernails and improper squeezing can cause acne to spread or lead to further infection. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring.Image credit:

3. Apply A Warm Compress

A warm compress is especially effective on deep, painful pimples that have developed into a whitehead, according to Webmd. To make a warm compress, soak a clean washcloth in warm water. Then, apply the warm compress to the pimple for 10 to 15 minutes. Do this three to four times daily until the pimple releases pus and heals.Image credit:

4. Tread Carefully When It Comes To Home Remedies

According to Webmd, even though things like toothpaste, cinnamon, lemon, or the like are sometimes recommended as home remedies for pimples, there is no evidence that they actually work.

When done too often, they can cause redness, inflammation, and irritation. Exfoliating a pimple can also pull away healthy skin cells and create an open wound and higher risk for scarring, so it’s wise to stay away from them especially if you have sensitive skin.

5. Change Your Face Towel Regularly

Using dirty towels can harbor bacteria, and they can even introduce new bacteria to your skin, which may lead to more pimples, according to Healthline. So, ensure to change or keep your face towel clean regularly.Image credit:

6. Change Your Pillowcases

Your pillowcase touches your skin each night while you snooze. This means that unwashed sheets and pillowcases can be a major breeding grounds for pimples. Because pillowcases sit against our skin every night, over time they can harbor oil, dirt, sweat and bacteria that lead to breakouts.Image credit:

7. Watch Your Diet

According to Webmd, you’re more likely to get pimples if your diet is full of foods that cause a spike in insulin, and lead to inflammation. The sugar and carbohydrates in these foods tend to get into your blood really quickly, and worsen breakouts.

Instead, adding leafy green vegetables and other brightly-coloured fruit and vegetables, which are rich in antioxidants and nutrients, can help dampen inflammation and improve skin quality.

8. Go Light On Your Makeup

Unfortunately, some makeups can cause acne and may make blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and inflammation worse. During a breakout, avoid wearing foundation, powder, or blush. If you do wear makeup, wash it off at the end of the day. If possible, choose oil-free cosmetics without added dyes and chemicals.Image credit:
