Some renowned people that got married to their blood relatives

Marriage to close relatives also referred to as consangeniuos marriage is regarded as a taboo or incest in many cultures while it is generally acceptable and even celebrated elsewhere in the world. Let us have a look at some famous people who got involved in this type of marital union.

Saddam Hussein:

Saddam Hussein had many wives but his first wife, “Sajida Talfah” is his first cousin. Their marriage was planned from childhood and they were married in 1963.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip :

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are both third cousins to each other and also both great great grand children to Queen Victoria. They got married in 1947.

Albert Einstein and Elsa Lowenthal nee: Einstein:

Albert Einstein married Elsa Lowenthal, his first cousin from his mother’s side in 1919.Oddly, they bore the same surname. They were related on both sides of the family. Lowenthal was a name from her first marriage.

Charles Darwin and Emma Wedgewood:

Charles Darwin got married to his first cousin, “Emma Wedgewood” in 1839. They had 10 children together, 3 of their kids died at an early age and Charles Darwin was worried their death was as a result of their close relationship because of his research on inbreeding at the time.

Franklin D Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt:

Franklin D Roosevelt was the 32nd President of the United States of America. He married his fifth cousin, ” Eleanor Roosevelt in 1905. They bore the same surname.

John Adams and Abigail Smith:

John Adams was the 2nd President of the United States of America. He married his third cousin, Abigail Smith in 1764.
